She made her big screen debut in Iranian drama film The Chess Game of the Wind (Shatranj-e baad) (1976). She got her television debut in mystery legal drama series Matlock (1990) in episode "Nowhere to Turn", in role as Saleslady. Shohreh's breakthrough performance came as Nadereh 'Nadi' Behrani in psychological drama film House of Sand and Fog (2003). She made her American movie debut in drama Guests of Hotel Astoria (1989) in role as Mrs. Pori Karemnia. She landed her professional stage debut in a play "A Narrow Road to the Deep North" (1973) in role as Empress Kōjun.
