Antonia Eugenia "Nia" Vardalos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on September 24, 1962, is a Greek Canadian actress.

Young Nia Vardalos first started performing at a local theatre company "Rainbow Stage", she also joined Toronto’s Second City theatre group.

She made her big screen debut in comedy film Men Seeking Women (1996) in role as Iris.

She got her television debut in crime drama series Missing Persons (1994) in episode "If You Could Pick Your Own Parents...", in role as Female Bartender.

Nia's breakthrough performance came as Toula Portokalos in romantic comedy movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002).
