Lea Katherine Thompson was born in Rochester, Minnesota, United States, on May 31, 1961, is an American actress.

Young Lea Thompson first started performing as a ballerina, she danced in more than 45 ballets with the American Ballet Theatre.

She made her big screen debut in horror thriller film Jaws 3-D (1983) in role as Kelly Ann Bukowski.

She got her television debut in HBO horror anthology series Tales from the Crypt (1989) in episode "Only Sin Deep", in role as Sylvia Vane.

Her breakthrough performance came as Lorraine Baines in science fiction film Back to the Future (1985), for which she was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.
