Young Kathy Griffin started her professional career as a member of improvisational comedy troupe, The Groundlings.

She made her big screen debut in space opera film Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) in role as Alien Extra.

She got her television debut in sketch comedy show On the Television (1989-1991) in various roles.

Her breakthrough performance came in Bravo reality television series Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (2005–2010).
