Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha GCIH, OMC, known professionally as Carmen Miranda was born in Marco de Canaveses, Portugal, on February 9, 1909, was a Portuguese-born Brazilian actress and singer. Young Carmen Miranda first started her career as a singer for Brazilian radio stations. She made her big screen debut in Brazilian short documentary A Voz do Carnaval (1933) in role as Herself at Rádio Mayrink Veiga. She made her Hollywood film debut in musical Down Argentine Way (1940) as Herself. She got her television debut in variety show Texaco Star Theater (1949) as Herself. Carmen's breakthrough came with song "Taí (Pra Você Gostar de Mim)" in Brazil (1930). She landed her Broadway debut in a musical "Streets of Paris" (1939-1940), at Broadhurst Theatre.
