He got his television debut in supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1998) in episode "Go Fish", in role as Gage Petronzi. Wentworth's breakthrough performance came as Michael Scofield in Fox drama television series Prison Break (2005–2009; 2017). He landed his screenwriting debut with psychological thriller film Stoker (2013), for which he was nominated for the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Screenplay and the International Online Cinema Award for Best Original Screenplay.
