Young Sam Shepard first started performing with touring repertory group Bishop's Company. He made his big screen debut in comedy film Brand X (1970). He got his television debut in anthology series ITV Saturday Night Theatre (1974) in episode "Geography of a Horse Dreamer". Sam's breakthrough performance came as Chuck Yeager in epic historical drama film The Right Stuff (1983). He landed his feature directorial debut with drama film Far North (1988).
