He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company at the age of 23. He made big screen debut in historical sports drama film Chariots of Fire (1981) in uncredited role as Cambridge Student. He got his television debut in BBC1 anthology science fiction series Play for Tomorrow (1982) in episode "Easter 2016", in role as Student. Kenneth's breakthrough performance came as Billy Martin in BBC's anthology drama series Play for Today (1982). He landed his directorial debut with historical drama film Henry V (1989).
