Ken Watanabe was born in Hirokami, Niigata, Japan, on October 21, 1959, is a Japanese actor. Young Ken Watanabe first started performing with Engeki-Shudan En theatre troupe. He made his big screen debut in drama film MacArthur's Children (1984) in role as Tetsuo Nakai. He got his television debut in detective series Taiyō ni Hoero! (1983) in role as Yūji Shimizu. Ken's breakthrough performance came as Date Masamune in Japanese historical television series Dokuganryū Masamune (1987). He landed his Broadway debut in a musical "The King and I" (2015) in role as King of Siam, at Lincoln Center Theatre, for which he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
