He made big screen debut in musical comedy film Without You I’m Nothing (1990) in role as Ex-Boyfriend. He got his television debut in Fox teen drama series Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) in episode "Class of Beverly Hills", in role as Doorman. Djimon's breakthrough performance came as Joseph Cinqué in historical drama film Amistad (1997).
