He got his television debut in comedy drama film Meantime (1983) in role as Coxy. He made his big screen debut in drama movie Remembrance (1982) in role as Daniel. Oldman's breakthrough performance came as Sid Vicious in British biopic film Sid and Nancy (1986). He made his debut as a writer and director with drama movie Nil by Mouth (1997), for which he won a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film and for Best Original Screenplay.
